African Lion on the Loose in El Paso County - Just East of Colorado Springs

Yes. A real, live African lion is roaming around Eastern El Paso County today. No. It is not a mountain lion, but a real African Lion. It was originally believed that it was an escaped lion from the Big Cats of Serenity Springs, also located in Eastern El Paso County, but was later confirmed NOT to be a lion from that facility.

If you live out east, bring in your pets and monitor your livestock until you get the confirmation call that the lion has been contained. (You should get a reverse 9-1-1 call for confirmation.)

If you see the lion, do NOT approach it. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

According to the recent article in the Gazette:

"As the search wore on into early afternoon, some residents were taking the danger seriously enough to have strapped on revolvers, while others searched on horseback with lassos at the ready."

Welcome to the Wild, Wild West of Colorado.
